THE AA GUIDE: 1 AA ROSETTE FOR CULINARY EXCELLENCE
Cosily tucked away on a small alleyway off the High Street, the traditional frontage of this whitewashed hotel belies its modern interior, and the popular Savoro restaurant proves a little gem. A cool, contemporary décor sets the scene, with plenty of glass and mirrors and unobtrusive artwork, while leather banquettes line walls and come with comfy cushions that add to the relaxed tone. The kitchen's modern approach produces intelligently simple, clean-cut, well-presented and executed dishes on an appealing carte - with a large grill section - driven by quality produce. Take roasted duck breast served with sweet potato purée, pak choi and a mustard seed and hoi sin dressing, while from the grill, perhaps whole wild sea bass cooked on a bed of fresh herbs, and to finish, treacle tart with bourbon ice cream (home-made ice creams being a speciality of the house).
